ART BIZ SUCCESS BOOK RELEASE
ART BIZ SUCCESS Alyson Stanfield
Short description of what your business does or what you specialize in: We work with ambitious visual artists who want to grow their businesses. We arm them with strategies and support for building their businesses through private coaching, communities filled with like-minded ambitious artists, and an online learning center.
How did you get into this line of work? I worked as a museum curator and educator for 10 years and moved to Denver in 2001 primarily because I wanted to live in Colorado. So, I started my own art consulting business (which is a whole different story and line of work). The artists that I had known in my museum life heard I was on my own and kept coming to me for help. That’s when Art Biz Coach was birthed, and it took off right away because artists were grateful to have the support. In 2018, we rebranded as Art Biz Success.
Tell us about this book that you just released! This is the 4th edition of I’d Rather Be in the Studio: The Artist’s No-Excuse Guide to Self Promotion, which was first released in 2008. It’s the book that won’t die! But this is the first print/paperback edition since 2011. (We experimented with e-book only in 2015. Turns out artists like hard copies.) I wanted to get it back into print because there really is no other book like it. It’s a comprehensive overview of marketing steps and guidelines for visual artists. Many colleges and universities have used it in their curriculum.
Any requests from the Connect’s community?
Yes, I have a request. Because I was an original member, I’ve witnessed the phenomenal growth of Connects. We used to know everyone in the building, which is no longer possible. I hope everyone recognizes the unique nature of Connects and our place in Golden. Please make an effort to reach out meet your neighbors.
