A Letter from Jen
Updated: Jan 24, 2019
It is hard to believe that we are ending 2018 and walking into 2019. 2018 was a year of growth and opportunity for me. During 2018 I celebrated the marriages of two of my children (Caleb married Emma and Courtney married Jess), had a third graduate cum laude from Colorado State University (Annie), opened Connects Mercantile location and purchased Café 13. When I look back to the end of 2017 the only plans on my horizon were one wedding and one graduation. Life certainly does move fast!
As I look toward 2019 I hope to slow down a bit. We will do some renovations on Café 13, see our high schooler graduate (Josh) and celebrate one more wedding (Annie is engaged to Jordan). Beyond that I would like to settle in and enjoy the ride.
Words cannot express how thankful I am for the Connects community. I have met lifelong friends, witnessed startups launch, small businesses succeed and been a welcoming place for new faces that love Golden as much as I do. Many thanks to Drew and Tyson who faithfully bring down the empty coffee from the Eagle’s Nest, Andrew who makes giving tours so easy because he is friendly with everyone, Jamie and Ken for your chat times with Judy, Alyson, Eileen, Lori, Heidi and Jeff for sticking with me from day one, and the list could go on and on. Kate, Courtney, Judy, Debi and Josh have been the best staff as they have helped me to build Connects. I am thankful to have found a team that understands the value of community and connection.
As you think about walking into a new year I challenge you to look back on the wins and even losses of this last year. Take time to celebrate and/or morn. Then lift your head and look toward 2019. Set some goals, intentions or resolutions. Be excited for a new year, fresh calendar and maybe even some snow. When life moves as fast as it does it is easy to let one day blend into the next and before you know it you are living life and going through the motions without being present. Let’s all Be Present together.
Connects is an easy place to step out of your comfort zone. Chat with someone new, attend (or even host) a Happy Hour or teach a workshop. If each one of us takes just a bit of time to “connect” with someone else I believe we can create a culture of connection.
